Automaton, an electro pop outfit from West Sussex bringing you first class synth pop albums since 2017. Check out this second album written in 2018. Here on Bandcamp Mastered album available on Spotify this year.

We have had the pleasure of speaking with her, because of her latest work: The Calling. Enjoy!
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?
Automaton is my stage name since circa 2015. In Birmingham, where Im from my mom used to work in leisure and would have to go into pubs and change the records on the jukebox so we would end up with hundreds of 7 inches all kept in a massive box which I had full use of growing up, my favourites were Roxy Music and Blondie.
How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?
When Im songwriting I Like to find a minimal stripped back groove. Theres loads of cool stuff coming out, right now Im listening to Hercules Love Affair, The Gorrilaz and Rui Di Silva
How do you feel that your music influences or impacts your listeners?
This sophomore album is a smorgasbord of Euphoric pop, I hope that the message of hope and excitement pervades. I want them to feel lifted out of their school run or commute to work for 5 minutes.
What projects are you working on right now? What can you tell us about your last job?
Pop, Always pop from 2000 for me. Ive had other jobs but this is my “calling”

Where are you and what have you been doing now?
Right now I am in my home studio, I have the instruments rigged up in my sitting room and I am ready to rehearse.
Has that sound changed a lot in recent years? What is your musical criteria?
When I first started making music and Djing I went to the library and sampled Hungarian singers or a specific piece of synth. Now I play 4 synthesisers, use a Drum machine and sing at the same time so, of course its evolved. I also have band members and can do acoustic versions of my song which I never thought Id accomplish.
Do you feel safe now to play a more experimental sound?
Yes, now I have the skill, I never worry too much about breaking formulaic boundaries or what chord should follow what or what I should say. Why should IThat’s the idea I believe.
We all know that the digital revolution has affected sales, but has it affected creativity?
Only in that now anyone can break through and have success. Its not really about the boy girls and boy bands anymore, or if it is that’s because they are popular. Anyone can have a go.
Can you tell us what your present and future projects are?
This release is the sophomore album by AUTOMATON, the 3rd album is mainly written but nowhere near production, we are rehearsing for some gigs we are doing some festivals over the Summer.
