REVIEW: M.O.O.N. presents ‘Come! See!!!’ LP

Boston-born and now Lisbon-based Producer & DJ M.O.O.N. presents his powerful and atmospheric “Come! See!!” album – the first ‘M.O.O.N.’ LP in nearly 5 years.

Released on 18 May, M.O.O.N. describes ‘Come! See!!’ as “a therapy session in album form”, as he re-opens the M.O.O.N. chapter of his life, exploring new directions and old processes to present a look at how he has evolved in the decade since the first MOON EP, which became a cult classic following its inclusion in the ‘Hotline Miami’ computer game.

All eleven tracks on ‘Come! See!!’ display a beautiful fragility which veers from expansive to hauntingly claustrophobic. Full of emotion, the album deals with such topics as anxiety and imposter syndrome (the album’s stunning first single, ‘Grift’), as M.O.O.N. says “I think every artist is always a bit suspicious that anyone actually enjoys their work, or that they have talent at all. Sometimes a career in the arts can feel a bit like you’ve tricked people somehow.”

M.O.O.N.’s DJ supporters include Peggy Gou, Ali Renault, 2ManyDJs, and previously, Andrew Weatherall.

M.O.O.N. is the better-known alias of Boston-born, Lisbon-based electronic musician Stephen Gilarde. The first release under the name, the self-titled MOON EP, was released in 2011 and became a cult classic in large part due to its inclusion in the video game ‘Hotline Miami’. In the years following, M.O.O.N. released three additional LPs as well as a full-length album, ‘Clinically Blasé’ (Friends of Friends, 2017). While ‘Clinically Blasé’ was meant to be the last offering from Gilarde under the name M.O.O.N., he has returned after nearly 5 years, with his album ‘Come! See!!’ out May 2022.
